Parents' Association Update - Term 1, 2024

The Whitby Collegiate Parents’ Association (WCPA) has had a busy first term, full of fun and achievements that will benefit our school community.

The annual school BBQ in February saw a fantastic number of attendees, and it was a great chance to serve up some sausages and burgers to familiar faces as well those who have just joined our community.

The WCPA also supported this year’s Open Day on Sunday 7 April, which drew a huge crowd of parents and children looking to find out more about our school.  We were happy to serve them homemade baked goods and answer all their questions of what it’s like to have children attending Whitby.

Both events required the use of our gazebos, and to make transport of the gazebos much easier, we’ve recently purchased wheelie bags which helps to move them around.  We also purchased weights to keep the gazebos firmly in place when the wind starts to blow.

We’ve recently received “wish lists” from teachers and school leaders, letting us know what we could purchase to best support them in the classrooms and around the school grounds. So far, we’ve organised repainting of the line markings on the netball and basketball courts; a new dishwasher for the science lab; and special markers for the learning support team. We’re looking forward to granting more of these wishes as the year continues.

This term, we’ll be running the “Clash of Generations” evening for our Year 7-9 students and their parents; participating in another Open Day in June; and also supporting the upcoming Golf Tournament fundraiser.

If you’d like to join us in the WPCA, we always welcome new members. Contact us at wcpa@whitbycollegiate.school.nz.
