John Fiso ONZM (Chairman)

John has extensive governance and management experience in education, health and economic development sectors. He has served as chairman of the Independent Tertiary Education Providers of NZ (ITENZ) and on the boards of Pacific Co-operation Foundation, Ako Aotearoa, Volleyball NZ, and the Pacific Business Trust.

John was awarded the NZ Order of Merit for services to sport, education and the Pasifika community and was named Wellingtonian of the Year for services to education in 2016.

John founded the NZ Institute of Sport, a three-tier education institute with foundation, vocational and graduate programmes. He is also the chairman of Pacific Health Plus, the only Pacific healthcare provider in Porirua, and is passionate about improving access to medical services, bringing greater accountability and positive change to an underperforming health sector.

Roger Moses CNZM

Roger Moses is a prominent educational leader with a wealth of experience in New Zealand's education sector. With a career spanning over four decades, he has made significant contributions to the field. Roger is known for his role as the Principal of Wellington College, where he served for an impressive 21 years. During his tenure, he played a pivotal role in fostering academic excellence, promoting a positive school culture, and nurturing the holistic development of students. Roger's dedication to education extends beyond his time at Wellington College; he has been actively involved in various educational organizations, working to shape educational policies and practices in New Zealand.

In addition to his extensive experience in education, Roger Moses is recognised for his commitment to fostering leadership skills and character development in young individuals. His passion for education and leadership aligns well with the mission of Whitby Collegiate, making him a valuable addition to the school's governance team. As a member of the Whitby Collegiate governance board, Roger Moses brings a wealth of knowledge and insights that will undoubtedly contribute to the continued growth and success of the institution, benefiting both students and the broader community.

Keith Taylor ONZM

Keith has significant governance experience being one of New Zealand’s most senior directors, providing governance leadership for some of New Zealand’s largest private companies, public institutions and not-for-profits.

Keith achieved significant academic credentials achieving national scholarships to place him as one of New Zealand’s top academic students, with degrees in Science, Mathematics and Economics and attendance at Stanford University Investment programme and Oxford University Advanced Management Programme.

Keith has served 5 years as a director of the New Zealand Qualifications authority and 6 years as chair of Wellington College.

He has recently been the deputy chair of the Reserve Bank and the chair of the Government Superannuation fund. He is a director of the Southern Cross Health Group and AMP Life (Australia). He also chairs Dwell social housing trust. Keith spent 15 years as the Tower Limited MD/CFO.

Keith comes to Whitby Collegiate with a wealth of experience and expertise. He has a history of mentoring young people and has spent all of his professional life in Wellington.

Shelley Addison

Initially from a secondary school background, Shelley was a Regional Sports Director at Sport Bay of Plenty before taking up the role of Deputy CE at the NZ Institute of Sport. Over the next 22 years, as part of the Fiso Group, she oversaw the growth of NZIS to a multi-campus, multi-level independent tertiary provider. She was the relationship manager with key compliance agencies such as NZQA and the Tertiary Education Commission, and oversaw collaborations with international tertiary providers.

Shelley also comes with a strong pedigree in sport, having represented NZ in Volleyball for over a decade as the national team captain. She then went on to coach the senior women’s team for several years, was the Vice-President of Volleyball NZ and a team leader to the Atlanta Olympics. Shelley has been inducted as a life member of Volleyball NZ in recognition of her services to the sport.

Tony Hanning

Tony has had a significant career in education as a teacher, principal and Director of Catholic Education for the Southland and Otago region. Tony has been instrumental in establishing new schools in the Southland Otago region, both primary and secondary and has overseen the rationalisation of Catholic schools when required. Tony’s 38-year tenure as Director of the Catholic Education office in Dunedin, and his distinguished contribution to education in general, was recognised with the conferring of a Papal Knighthood.

Tony was responsible for St. Peter’s College (Gore), Verdon College (Invercargill), Kavanagh College (Dunedin), St Kevin’s College (Oamaru) and was responsible for rationalising and merging schools such as Teschemakers, St Thomases, St Philomena, St Dominic’s.

Tony served as an international Director for Lions International, holding many national and international executive positions over 30 plus years. Tony was also the regional manager for Camp Quality South, supporting the families of children with life-threatening illnesses.

Api Fiso

Api has 36 years of experience in various public and private sector leadership roles at a strategic and operational level. As an Inspector in the NZ Police he was involved in a number of diverse operation roles combatting organised and transnational crime, including training and development. He was a Criminal Intelligence Analyst and the National Bureau of Criminal Intelligence Manager.

He was seconded to Immigration NZ and established a new group looking after New Zealand’s borders and was subsequently the Group Manager for a number of years.

He served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the New Zealand Institute of Sport (14 years) and Director of FIG (Fiso Investment Group), and has chaired a number of high-level interagency government committees in his public service career. A Highlight was chairing and member of the Executive of the Pacific Island Directors Conference (PIDC).

Api has a strong interest in the Pacific region working with Pacific governments and donor organisations on a broad range of initiatives and also the development of strategies focused on pacific peoples in New Zealand. He is a member of the Executive Alumni for APCSS (Asia Pacific Centre of Strategic Studies).

As the Niue Government’s Strategic Adviser, Api is currently leading projects in Niue constructing a new Parliament and co-managing a 3 year institutional strengthening and governance project for the Public Sector.

He represented New Zealand in Volleyball for 7 years and has also held various roles in administration and coaching, as Chairman of the Combined Services Volleyball and as coach and selector for several years, and as a past member of the Volleyball New Zealand executive board.


Advisory Board

Danielle Leslie

Danielle Leslie has lived in the Porirua area since 2000 after moving over from Marlborough. She has been connected to the school since 2009 with both of her children attending Samuel Marsden Whitby and Whitby Collegiate. Danielle has an accounting background having worked as an accounting technician for Marlborough firm WK for 10 years, then since 2003 Danielle and her husband Andrew have been involved in the residential construction field. 

Danielle has been a longstanding supporter of the school and was actively involved in the campaign to save the school in July 2019. She sees the school as a precious asset that is important, as it gives people the choice in the pathway for their children’s education.

Elizabeth Couchman

Elizabeth and her husband, Bryan live with their three sons Oliver (Samuel Marsden Whitby, leaver 2015), Edward and Thomas (Samuel Marsden Whitby, leavers 2019) on the beautiful Kapiti Coast. Her sons all thrived in the fabulously caring Whitby environment with its high academic standards, strong values, nurturing staff and true sense of community.

Elizabeth began her career as a teacher of foreign languages at secondary school level. More recently, she’s held a variety of roles in education throughout the Kapiti area, working with both children and teenagers with learning needs, physical health challenges and mental health issues. She is currently Assistant Principal at Waikanae Primary School, where she runs the Learning Support programmes, arranging support to help every student to reach their potential.

Elizabeth is passionate about education and feels privileged to work in an area where we can help to grow great people. Strong values, excellence in academic, sporting and cultural endeavours, and promoting whanaungatanga, or a sense of belonging, are cornerstones of her educational philosophy. 

Tim Green

Tim has 20 years’ experience advising and working with businesses to grow and improve performance particularly in international markets. He is experienced in international business, leading change, and leading teams to high performance both in New Zealand, and across multiple global locations and cultures.

An experienced General Manager, Tim leads with an emphasis on empathy, listening, empowerment and action. He is skilled in the development and implementation of organisation strategy, and stakeholder collaboration and communication.

Tim is currently the General Manager Strategy, People and Partners at New Zealand Trade & Enterprise, where he has held a variety of senior leadership roles over the last 15 years.

His Board governance experience includes being a past member of the Export NZ Advisory Board, the NZ-US Business Council, the G2G Know-How Ltd Board (an NZTE subsidiary), and as an Advisor to the Board of Silverstripe Ltd.

Most of all though, Tim loves spending time with his wife Nadine, and children Sophie, Isla and Charlie on their Pauatahanui lifestyle block. He’s a self-described cricket tragic, a very part-time golfer, and is passionate about the role Whitby Collegiate will play in growing happy, fulfilled future leaders.
